Ghouls just wanna have fun

Paranormal Pajama Party returns for season two!

The Paranormal Pajama Party logo (a woman from the waist down wearing sheet ghost pj pants) is on the right. Text on the left reads, "Season 2, 13.5.24". The text is white on a teal background.

Hey, boo. (Get it? Because ghosts?)

It’s me, Steph, and I’m delighted to announce that Paranormal Pajama Party is back for a second season, launching on 13 May! Pull on your favourite pyjamas, grab a midnight snack or a warm drink, and join me for another round of spine-tingling stories and spirited discussions.

  • [A wolf howls in the distance, an engine idles and shuts off, and then a car door slams shut]

Steph: Well, gang, we’re here, outside the spooky old mansion where the locals say all those weird noises are coming from. Something’s afoot, and it’s up to us to figure it out.

According to the legends, this mansion is haunted by the ghost of a woman scorned, a restless spirit seeking revenge from beyond the grave. And rumour has it she’s not the only one haunting these halls. There are tales of witches, demonesses and all sorts of spooky female spectres. Zoinks!

There’s only one thing we can do, gang. We’ve got to uncover the truth behind these hauntings!

Hi, I’m Steph, the host of Paranormal Pajama Party. Season two of the podcast is chock-full of chilling tales and intriguing insights about the fearsome and often fabulous female monsters, villains and spirits that stock folklore literature and the silver screen.

Sure, our fellow party guests are sometimes spooky, but the true terror comes from unmasking the patriarchal systems that lurk behind them. Yep, just like an episode of Scooby Doo, there’s usually a cowardly old man under there the whole time. Jinkies!

    [Theme music fades in]

Steph: So grab a flashlight and your Scooby Snacks because it’s time to join Paranormal Pajama Party for a night to remember… and stories you may want to forget.

    [Theme music fades out]

In the debut episode, we’re delving into the eerie tale of the Bank Nun, a notorious London ghost whose haunting story provides a fascinating glimpse into the lives of working-class and middle-class women in Regency England. Spoiler alert: it was nothing like the glamorous world of “Bridgerton” for those without means or male relatives.

The episode also covers penny dreadfuls, which were basically the Victorian equivalent of video games. These sensational and often gruesome publications thrilled young readers, but also played a significant role in improving literacy rates among the working class — a crucial step forward for women’s rights.

Throughout this season, we’ll explore topics and tales from around the world. From Mexico’s mysterious Island of the Dolls and Dominican folklore’s terrifying ciguapa to the powerful demon queen Rangda. We’ll be there for “The Fall of the House of Usher,” and we’ll learn the legends of Scotland’s green ladies. There’s something for paranormal enthusiasts and feminists alike!

As always, each episode is a unique blend of spooky storytelling, historical insights, and feminist perspectives that will hopefully leave you both enlightened and entertained.

Mark your calendars for 13 May, grab your teddy bear tight, and tune into Paranormal Pajama Party for a season filled with unforgettable stories and surprising revelations.

Stay spooky, and I’ll see you – and your bunny slippers – very soon. 🧸
